Writing the Ancestors – a walking and writing workshop

11am-1pm
FREE, but booking essential as places limited, please click on the headline for more info and the booking link.
Join local writer and storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton (please call her Pomme!) on an original and thought provoking creative workshop.

Local writer and storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton leads a creative writing journey through the cemetery. We will explore ideas of heritage – personal and local, imagined and actual. Inspired by the surroundings of the cemetery we will draw on: our senses; memories; inventions; snippets of history; the mystery of the cemetery, and the stories our our own ancestors. The workshop will start with walking, looking and jotting down ideas. As we walk, Pomme will guide you through simple, flowing creative writing tasks, taking inspiration from the history of the cemetery, its incredible architecture and the people who have been buried here. We will end up at the chapel, where we can sit indoors and develop our writing, reflecting on our own ancestors and heritage, exploring how the past is alive in the present. We will end by those who want to, sharing a few fragments of what they have written.

This workshop is for adults and 16+ only.

The theme of the walk and its environment means that it will touch on memories of the past and of people we have loved and lost.

Please bring a pen and a notebook, and all weather clothes! The walk and workshop will last about about an hour and 45 mins.

If you have any queries on accessibility, or anything else, please contact Kim Hart on khart@lambeth.gov.uk
