The architect responsible for the South Metropolitan (West Norwood) Cemetery, Sir William Tite (1798-1873), died 150 years ago on 20 April. In this talk Nicholas Long will look at his life and achievements and reflect on some of those of his contemporaries buried in the cemetery followed by a walk to view their memorials.
Please note the tour will not include a visit to the catacombs, where Tite is interred.
MEETING PLACE IS THE CREMATORIUM CHAPEL - about 15mins walk from the main entrance. Please aim to arrive at the chapel a few minutes before 2pm so we can start promptly.
Following the talk, there will be a short guided walk back to the main cemetery entrance. This is likely to go off the paved paths and roads and across uneven ground, so please come prepared with appropriate footwear!
