Moth Trapping Evening

Saturday 31 May
9.30pm-11.30pm
Come and find out what moths and other night-flying insects there are in West Norwood Cemetery, using a portable moth trap. The moth trap humanely draws moths to a bright light where they can be examined and identified.
This is a free event, but booking is essential - link here

Will we get Jersey Tigers, Magpie Moths, Brimstone Moths, Buff Tips, Peppered Moths, Antler Moths, or even Old Ladies? Will we find some rarities we haven’t see before!

The event starts at 9.30 pm and ends around 11.30 pm, remember to dress up warmly!

This walk is absolutely suitable for families of all ages. We will stick to hard paved pathways and roads inside the cemetery, so (even thought its very later) buggies and other wheeled vehicles can easily be used. It will go ahead, whatever the weather, but please come prepared.

If you have any queries on accessibility please contact Kim Hart on khart@lambeth.gov.uk

This is a completely free walk, brought to the community as part of the ongoing National Lottery Heritage Fund project.

Our moth detective for the evening is Dr Iain Boulton
Iain works for Lambeth Landscapes, which is responsible for the maintenance of Lambeth’s 65 parks, commons and cemeteries. He acts as the borough’s ecologist, working to ensure Lambeth’s wildlife and nature conservation sites are suitably managed to protect them. He is also responsible for helping to raise awareness in local residents and communities of Lambeth’s rich biodiversity, supporting them to look after and help improve the borough’s wildlife sites for the benefit of people and nature alike.

Important information - please read
There are (currently) no toilets in the cemetery.
As this event happens whilst the cemetery is closed, please arrive promptly as we cannot let in late comers, nor can we easily let you out (unless in an emergency of course), until the walk has finished - a max of 90mins.
Photos may be taken for reports and future publicity. Please let the walk leader know if you wish not to be photographed.
No dogs or alcohol, thank you.
