Immersive Sound and Voice Performance by Original Copy (Meandros)
Saturday 7 June
5pm-5:30pm
Original Copy is an ongoing project by Bristol-based Riccardo Carbone and London-based John Strutton, transforming visual material into immersive sound and voice. Using custom-built software, the duo explore the visible world—objects, images, and material space—to reveal hidden soundscapes and buried narratives.
For this special performance, they are joined by artist Marissa Stoffer, whose work centres on the relationship between humans and the non-human world through symbolism, language, story, and plant-derived colour. Through her foraging practice, Marissa hand-dyes textiles and creates pigments from plants—especially trees—as a form of sensory storytelling.
Together, they will explore the Oak Tree: a quiet yet powerful presence within West Norwood’s landscape by mapping this onto symbolism and ornament from taken from surrounding tombs and monuments. As part of this ritualistic performance they will also respond to some contributions from other artists in Gathering the Commons. Blending technology with ancient craft, the collaboration weaves sound, voice, language, and natural material into an atmospheric meditation on memory, ecology, and what lies just beyond our sight.
This event is being held alongside the current exhibiiton in St.Stephen's Chapel, Gathering the Commons' which brings together a group of artists: Lucy Mayes, Catherine Morland, Marissa Stoffer and Sara Trillo, whose practices explore the intricate relationships between humans, nonhumans, landscapes, and natural materials.
