Simple basketry and cordage workshop with John Page

Please join John Page for an immersive workshop where you will learn the fascinating art of traditional basketry using plants such as brambles, ivy, dried leaves and grasses foraged from the cemetery. You will make a small basket and bases for this will be provided at the start.
John has been teaching basketry techniques, mostly at the City Lit in Holborn, where he runs a two-year foundation course in basketry techniques. John specialise in rush basketry but has an interest in foraged and more traditional materials and their possibilities.
There is no need to bring anything thiough if you have a pair of secateurs and gardening gloves, these might be useful.
This event is being held alongside the current exhibiiton in St.Stephen's Chapel, Gathering the Commons' which brings together a group of artists: Lucy Mayes, Catherine Morland, Marissa Stoffer and Sara Trillo, whose practices explore the intricate relationships between humans, nonhumans, landscapes, and natural materials.

You are invited to join us from Friday 30 May through to Sunday 8 June, when the cemetery will be host to a wide range of free events and activities. For some you will need to pre-book, like this one, others you can just turn up.
