FREE Perseus and Pegasus by storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton

A 60 minute performance for children aged 5 upwards and their families.

Thrilling Greek myths! Meet hero Perseus and gorgon Medusa with snaky hair. Find out how Goddess Athena helps the hero. Hear how flying horse Pegasus was born and what happened when a foolish human tried to ride him! Learn some Greek words, discover ancient Greek traditions and decide if the characters make the right choices or not! This dramatic and exciting performance combines spoken word, strange musical sounds, playful humour, and lots of joining in with rhythms, gestures and sound effects to bring ancient Greece to life. 

The is a completely FREE event, but booking is essential as places are limited BOOK HERE

Sally Pomme Clayton (do call her Pomme!) is a local pioneering storyteller and writer who creates magical books and performances across the UK and beyond. Recently appearing at: Kings Place; Cambridge Junction; The Story Museum; The British Museum; Festivals in Sweden, Leipzig and Dresden; Cheltenham Literature Festival; Royal Opera House; Chelsea Physic Garden; The British Library. She author of 16 books. Her latest is: 'The Mighty Goddess' (The History Press 2023) her first book for adults and 'The King with Dirty Feet' (Otter-Barry Books 2021/2018) winner of The Oxford Book Award best picture book 2019.

Where will this event take place?
The newly refurbished St Stephen's Chapel in the Hellenic Enclosure in West Norwood Cemetery.
Please allow 15mins to walk from the main cemetery entrance on the corner of Norwood Road and Robson Road down to St Stephen's. See map below.
The venue has level access, and if you need to drive, then parking is also available outside the venue. An accessible toilet is available inside the venue.

This event is part of the celebrations to mark the completion of a six year National Lottery Heritage Fund project: 'A New Beginning' designed to conserve the Cemetery’s magnificent landscape and architecture, as well as offer new experiences and facilities to increase community use.

You are invited to join us from Friday 30 May through to Sunday 8 June for 'Illuminate', when the cemetery will be host to a wide range of free events and activities. Some you will need to pre-book, like this one, others you can just turn up.
